The column allows you to quickly and easily level your tripod head without the need to make time consuming adjustments. The levelling half ball mounted at the top of a tripod centre column allows the angle of the top plate to be independent of the rest of the tripod. This can be easily locked and unlocked via a turning grip, and the plate as a male 38'' screw for attaching to a video or photo head.
